I recently purchased a Range Rover Classic and have been loving it, however it suddenly began to idle rough and when I would hit the gas it had a delay then would accelerate. Teh delay sounded like the engine was flodding when I would hit the gas. I have not found a reliable Rover Mechanic in Charlotte where I live and the guy I trust my Rover to lives 2 hours away. So I decided to post on a few forums and google different things to see what I could learn and this is what I learned.

A lot of switches and sensors on your Rover can be cleaned. So I decided to start by buying some MAF(Mass Air Flow) Sensor Cleaner, and some Throttle Body Cleaner and some Electrical cleaner. The electrical cleaner is just something I like to have around because a lot of motors that run pumps on Rovers use little brushes which can create a messy enviroment for the pumps and sometimes it is a good thing to hit those motors with electrical cleaner just to keep everything good.

I removed my Mass Air Flow Sensor and sprayed it with the cleaner and that made a huge difference, I noticed that there was no hesitation when accelerating after I cleaned that sensor. Then I replaced my thermostat because my engine was running hot, and I replaced the thermostat with the "Fail Safe" thermostat which was just $15 and should it ever fail it will fail open so I wont over heat. Doing these few things helped a lot, then I replaced a few more sensors and everything is running good and strong now!

It just makes sense to remove and clean sensors before you begin to incur heavy repair costs. When you get comfortable under the hood of your Rover you can save a lot of money, and you will also find that these vehicles are a pleasure to work on.

Below is a pic of my new RRC :) If you have any questions feel free to ask, I'm not a mechanic, but just like any other enthusiast I enjoy my Rover and like working on it and have learned a few things over the years
